On Wednesday, I took the kids to the free movie that regularly plays at the Rave theaters (Tuesday and Wednesday morning) during the summer. This week we saw Charlotte's Web, and that part was really fun for the day. It was my sisters birthday so I took her kids so she could have a fun day at the mall!
Then we walked over the the Town Square park...of which was fun too...
One minute everything was hunky dory...kids playing...
And the next minute, Maddox got a severe burn on the palm of his hand from climbing onto the "spinner" which had a metal platform...It happened in less than a minute...I was staning only a few feet away and then the screaming started! Note to the people who invent these play things...Don't put metal on a play ground that doesn't have shade in 115 degree heat!!!!
The security personnel tried to help, but with a dinky first aid kit and someone who doesnt' know how to soothe a burn...was a little pointless. So I headed to the closest E.R., and Maddox screamed for the next TWO hours. He was admitted right away, and about an hour later finally got some pain medication, then after that kicked in they wrapped his hand and he was able to stop the sobbing and drift into a much needed little nap.
His hand is scabbing already and I think he will heal fast. And thanks to a preisthood blessing Mark administered to him. I think I needed one too...I felt so helpless, wishing I could take away the pain during those agonizing hours before he was treated properly. My nerves were shot by the time we got home, but my understanding of the atonement may have been increased just a little.
Mark went back on Friday to the park and because of their really good security system with cameras, they caught it on film, and they will take responsibility for all the damage that happened. Thank goodness. It's sad because I really like going to that park, but if it happened once, it could very well happen again, and some poor child and their mother will have to go through what we had to! I hope they either put shade over some of the play equipment or replace it with better material that doesn't burn in the heat!!!

Oh Stacy! I'm so sorry! Poor Maddox! I'm glad he'd doing better though, and good for you guys to prompt those people to make a change so that it wont happen again. How dumb of them to put metal in the blazing sun!!!
Oh my gosh! Poor little guy! that looks so painful, I'm glad he's healing quickly. Are you talking about the merry-go-round thing? I hope they will do something about that.
I am sooo sorry that it happened to you guys. I absolutely loved that park. But I KNEW something like that would happen. It was fine in the spring, but Hey it's the desert! Every park needs a ton of shade.
I feel your pain. I hope your nerves heal quickly. I am sure maddox will be fine.
Oh my gosh...I seriously almost threw up. I feel so sorry for his poor little hand. People really are dumb to not think about things like that. I am glad he is healing quickly. Kids are so resiliant.
How sad....POOR little guy!!!! Burns are NO FUN. Caleb burned his hand a month ago....he also SCREAMED for TWO hours!!! He is doing GREAT now. I'm Sure Maddox will be back to normal in no time :) I cannot belive that there is no shade over the park.... Dont they realize metal gets REALLY HOT in the Summer!!!!! Hope he is doing better :)
Wow, that did look painful. The ER is no fun, but I'm glad he'll be fine.
Oh the poor baby! :( I'm sorry to hear about this painful event. I hope things continue to heal quickly & you don't remain too traumatized over all this. How awful! :( (((Hugs)))
Oh my gosh! Poor baby. That's one bad looking burn! Hope he gets better soon.

Poor little guy!! Thats hard =( Im not glad it happended to your little man but Im glad Mark went back to say something... Weve taken our boys in the middle of the heat to and I was worried to even let my kids play, just run through the water because ALOT of the stuff gets so hot.. Like the slides they love and stuff. Hope Maddoxs heals up soon!
Oh poor little guy. That made me sick just looking at it. I'm glad Mark went back and told them. Obviously they don't have the brightest people working there.
Oh man, my heart goes out to you & Maddox. I can't imagine how horrible that would be. That makes me sad, seriously what were they thinking putting a metal play thing at a park in Vegas & not cover it with shade. I'm glad to hear that he is doing better & healing.
