2008 Election

Watching John McCain speak to his supporters tonight was a bit sad, but yet he filled me with hope. I haven't been a fan of McCain until I was forced into voting for him because I didn't like his opponent, who will run our country for the next four years...ugh.

He was gracious and tried to encourage unity, teamwork and hope. It will take all of that and more as America's economy is slumping and unstable. Let's see what will happen now with Obama in the White House. All I'm hoping for, personally, is to NOT see a repeat of a 'Jimmy Carter' run presidency, where interest rates on home loans were at 19%...unbelievably high and unafforadable...and gas was $2.69 in the early 70's.

I am very happy to see that Proposition 8 passed in California. Thank goodness. I am not a home-schooling type of mother...but if I had to, I would, just to teach my children that marriage is between a man and woman. If it didn't pass in California, it would set the standard, and it seems that most states would follow the trend, allowing same sex marriage throughout the U.S. What would the country come to if it didn't pass...I'm glad it passed, and I hope to never see it come back on the ballot again.

What will the next four years be like for our Economy?

I love this scripture:
God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Tim 1:7

Whatever happens, I do not want to be struck fear. Just faith.

And just to clarify, the church is for Proposition 8 which indicates that marriage is between a man and woman so we do want it to pass. Voting no for proposition 8 is voting for same sex marriage. It was confusing to me at first too.

Alls I can say is FOOD STORAGE! We've got to make our homes the BEST place for refuge, learning, and love. We need to teach our children more and better than they will get in their schools and have the reserves to live and support outselves if a disaster were to strike. And lets hope we can find renewable energies sooner than later- I'd hate to have to flee my home and have to stop for "non-existent" gas 3 hours later.

As of right now, 9:00am, prop 8 is passing! But there is still 3 million votes to count so we'll see. I know there is opposing measures already in the works if it does pass.... let's hope and pray it will all work out.

Yes Sister Anderson, the passing of prop 8 in California means that gay marriage will no longer be legal there.

Prop 8 passed, as well as a similar amendment in Arizona (prop 102). The only real difference is that no couples or families will be affected in Arizona since there is already a standing ban against gay marriage.

Still, I have yet to hear a good argument against gay marriage. Most people seem to vote against gay marriage because their church told them to; that just isn't enough for me.

Stacy, you might want to fix your typo. Proposition 8 Passed in California, which amended the state constitution to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman. A Yes vote was a vote to have the government define and protect traditional marriage. A good vote in my opinion, but as stated above, all arguments on both sides are purely speculative. The similar propositions in Arizona and Florida which banned Gay "marriage," as defined, also passed.

It's all kind of scary to think about! Hope it all goes okay!
